In Memory of James M. Slater, MD

January 7, 1929 - December 26, 2018

It is with sadness we announce James M. Slater, MD, the world's authority in patient-centered proton therapy, passed away on December 26.

Slater, for whom the James M. Slater, MD Proton Treatment and Research Center was renamed in 2007, was the first to bring proton therapy to a hospital setting in order to treat cancer and other diseases at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC).  His pioneering vision for a safe, efficient and reliable proton treatment that minimized side effects came to fruition when the first patient received treatment at LLUMC in 1990. Since that time, 600,000 proton treatments have been delivered to more than 18,000 patients.

In honor of his legacy we invite you to make a donation to the James M. Slater, MD Proton Treatment and Research Center
