Children's Hospital - Big Air Kids Fair

For the past 10 years, hundreds of spectators have filled the sidewalk and entryway to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital for Big Air Kids Fair, a Freestyle Motocross demo. Each year the event is made possible by Big Air Kids Fair founder Steve Bauer and his partner, Jeff Tilton. "This is more than an FMX show for us. It's a chance to bring some much needed smiles to these kids' faces," Mr. Bauer says. "We appreciate Loma Linda University Children's Hospital for giving us the opportunity to do this for the past 10 years."

In addition to the FMX show, each year Mr. Bauer invites a handful of the world's top Supercross and Motocross racers to the event, and after the show they spend the afternoon touring the hospital, handing out toys, clothing and other goodies to patients, all donated by the wonderful people and companies that comprise the motocross racing community. Many of these companies have been on board since the very first Kid's Fair back in 2003, when the former professional Motocross racer called his lifelong friend and former competitor, Marty Moates, to help round up support for the fledgling event. Marty, one of the sport's true icons, was the first American to win the United States Grand Prix at Carlsbad after decades of European domination, becoming an instant legend and an inspiration to a generation of fans across the country. After racing he co-founded the successful action sports appareal company, No Fear, as well as FMF International apparel. Marty was fully committed to the Big Air Kids' Fair from the start, bringing hundreds of shirts and hats each year and personally, seeing that no one was left out. His enthusiasm for the event and love for the kids was unmistakable and contagious.

Marty unexpectedly passed away in December of 2006, just two weeks prior to the event he loved so much. Recognizing Marty's spirit, Heather Moates requested that his friends donate to the Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers. The donations poured in and the hospital honored his memory by creating the "Marty Moates Shining Star Fund." The fun can only exist with the help of benefactors, such as the Fire & Police MX, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, Monster Energy AMA Supercross promoter, Feld Motor Sports...and people like you! Show your support for this great event and bring a smile to the face of a kid who could really use one!
